Celebrating 2 years as a B Corp.

It’s our B-day! Today, we’re celebrating 2 years as the only B Corp certified ICP, joining a global movement of businesses committed to making a positive impact. 

Since becoming a B Corp our momentum towards being a power for good has not slowed. We asked our team what some of their favourite people and planet milestones have been during our two-year tenure of being a Bcorp. Here is just a snippet of what they said: 

1. The launch of Sinewave Switch – we couldn’t help but mention our new carbon tracking platform known as Switch. Nearly two years in the making, this bespoke platform allows us to forecast and track project-specific carbon emissions generated for our customers. By working with Sinewave, we enable project-neutral carbon delivery for our customers. We are on a journey to net zero and are focused on reducing our carbon emissions year on year, for us and our customers. The primary objective of Switch?.... Minimising carbon emissions before they even occur!

2. Do you know where your rubbish goes? We do!
This year, 99.8% of all waste generated by Sinewave was diverted away from landfill. We have robust waste management systems in place and encourage all team members to think before they bin. Can we reduce what we use, can we reuse it, or perhaps it can be donated? Our last option is we recycle, we monitor the volume of this waste and methodically spot-check to make sure waste is correctly handled and responsibly disposed of.

3. We’ve completed 82.5 days of training this year, and there’s still more to come. It’s important to us to provide our people with the tools and knowledge to do their jobs well, and we take both personal and career development seriously. Some of the training conducted includes: Leadership training, Mental health first aid training, Working an Height, SHEA Power, SMSTS and SPA… just to name a few. The Sinewave Academy, our in house training centre, supports our goal to provide gold standard training to Team Sinewave, and those in our local community and beyond.

4. EV and battery first! Naturally, our pool vehicles are already electric but our teams use a lot of kit in their day-to-day jobs. We felt it was high time we upgraded our team’s machinery to be the most efficient and environmentally friendly. On top of this, we recently received our brand new EV forklift which will reduce the carbon output associated with our warehouse activity. With solar-powered welfare units being introduced to our major-projects sites, this will be another small step towards reducing our impact.  We've a long shopping list to get through, but small changes will make a big impact.

5. Celebrating our people – we have the best team, and we want to remind them of this regularly. Our team live and breathe our company values, so we launched the Sinewave VIP Awards in recognition of this. The ‘Values in Practice’ awards showcase everyone who has demonstrated a Sinewave value throughout the year. Our team nominates and decides their winners, with 6 values, and nearly 100 team members, there are a lot of nominations. Our winners receive additional day of holiday and a swanky trophy, but moreover, it’s a chance to reflect and celebrate how the team goes above and beyond for each other day to day. 

With people and planet at the heart of what we do, we have barely scratched the surface. We are excited for next year and beyond.
