Sinewave achieve industry first by receiving B Corp Certification.

B-Corp….the phrase of the moment? Known globally for measuring a company’s entire social and environmental impact, the certification is hard to attain and even harder to keep.

With the likes of big brands such as Patagonia, TOMs, Ben and Jerry’s and Nespresso as titleholders, there are around 6000 companies in 86 countries, across 159 industries that hold the certification. And with only 1000 certified B Corps in the UK – Sinewave are the first in its particular sector to gain this achievement.

What makes B Corp different and why it matters to Sinewave?

Sinewave is a values-led company, with people and planet being at the heart of everything the business does. However, it can be all too easy to shout these statements without being held accountable. Sinewave are already holders of several sustainability accreditations and awards, including Planet Mark and the recently given Lloyds Bank Sustainable Business of the Year Award.

With over a year in the making, a core team of sustainability champions from #TeamSinewave worked with the global non-profit organisation B Lab towards the goal of making Sinewave an official B Corp

Irrespective of the work that Sinewave carries out in the renewable and EV sectors being inherently linked to sustainability, the certification is less about what you do as a business but how you do it. B Lab states ‘you do not need to be producing a product or service that in its own right is classed as sustainable. It is about the way the business is run, how the team is treated, how it uses energy and treats the environment.’

Sinewave underwent meticulous evaluations to ensure the B Corp standards where fulfilled, with criteria needing to meet ‘high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials’.

How will Sinewave keep levelling up?

One of the aspects of the B Corp Certification that particularly aligns with the values of Sinewave is that a recertification is required every three years.

‘Be What’s Next’ is a value that all of those at Sinewave work to, the teams continuously look at ways of doing things better. The aim of the team at Sinewave will be not only to regain the certification but to increase the score of the B Impact Assessment, a challenge that will be relished.

The team at Sinewave are excited to join the global network of businesses that make up the B Corp Community. Sustainability is a passion of the entire team, if you would like to hear more about anything people and planet related at Sinewave, drop an email to hello@sinewave.co.uk
